Tim is serving his first term as an  Esquimalt Councillor, having topped the polls with 72% of the vote in the 2011 municipal election. His governance experience includes the Advisory Planning Commission, Environmental Advisory Committee, Parks & Recreation Advisory Committee, Local Grants Committee, Buccaneer Days Committee, CRD Housing Trust Fund Commission and the Victoria & Esquimalt Harbour Society Board of Directors.

Prior to being elected, Tim served as Co-Chair of the Esquimalt Residents Association and founding Editor of EsquimaltReview.com, our community’s online independent newspaper from 2009-2011. He has also been a Director for the Esquimalt Chamber of Commerce, an Esquimalt Block Watch Captain and a volunteer fundraiser for the United Way of Greater Victoria.

Tim is a seasoned communications professional. He has done extensive provincial government communications on a variety of policies and projects with a specialty in public engagement.  He currently manages communications for the B.C. Assessment Authority with responsibility for two million properties worth a combined total of over $1 trillion.

Tim first joined the provincial government in 2001, assigned to two major projects including B.C.’s winning bid to host the 2010 Winter Olympics as well as the creation and implementation of the Community Charter legislation that officially recognizes the autonomy and authority of local governments.

Tim has worked on major projects such as Vancouver’s winning bid to host the 2010 Winter Olympics.

From 2003 to 2006, Tim followed a life dream of continuous world travel. He worked as a travel writer for Canwest News Services including featured weekly columns in the Victoria Times Colonist and the Vancouver Sun. He also financed his travel by working as an international adventure tour guide. To date, Tim has visited, worked, and volunteered in nearly 80 countries on six continents.

Tim is a graduate of Simon Fraser University where he studied political science, communications, and geography. He also has a Certificate in Urban Studies and a teaching certificate. He has previously worked as a college instructor, teacher, counsellor, and served two terms as an elected school board trustee. In 2002, Tim’s community service was recognized by the British Columbia School Trustees Association with a Certificate of Honour.
